Theresa's Sri Lanka Journey

In February 2026, I had the pleasure of joining a round trip through Sri Lanka organized by beSrilankan. My journey began in the vibrant city of Colombo, where bustling traffic, incredible food, and breathtaking sunsets immediately set the tone for the adventure ahead.
On my first evening, I sipped a fresh fruit juice on the beach while the sun disappeared into the Indian Ocean and trains rumbled along the tracks behind me. I was instantly drawn into the Sri Lankan way of life. From the very beginning, everything was perfectly organized — the itinerary balanced Sri Lanka's cultural highlights, wildlife, mountain scenery, and beautiful beaches without ever feeling rushed.

Sigiriya & Dambulla
Our next stop was Sigiriya, the ancient rock fortress known as Lion Rock. Rising 180 metres above the surrounding forests, this remarkable site offered breathtaking panoramic views and a fascinating glimpse into Sri Lanka's history.
The following day we visited the Dambulla Cave Temple, a Buddhist sanctuary carved into a massive rock formation. The peaceful atmosphere, Buddha statues, and spiritual surroundings created an unforgettable experience.

Kandy & Tea Country
We continued to Kandy, where I visited the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic before travelling into Sri Lanka's famous tea country. Endless tea plantations, mountain roads, and tranquil lakes created some of the most beautiful scenery I have ever witnessed.
One of the highlights of the journey was climbing Adam's Peak before sunrise. Watching the sun emerge above the mist-covered mountains was one of the most memorable moments of the entire trip.

Nuwara Eliya & Ella
The journey continued through the cool highlands of Nuwara Eliya before reaching Ella, where waterfalls, mountain views, and lush landscapes showcased another side of Sri Lanka's beauty.

Udawalawe Safari
At Udawalawe National Park, I experienced an incredible safari, spotting elephants, deer, crocodiles, peacocks, turtles, water buffalo, and countless bird species in their natural habitat.
Visiting the nearby elephant orphanage and watching rescued elephant calves being cared for was equally unforgettable.

Galle & Southern Coast
The historic Dutch Fort in Galle, the vibrant beaches of Hikkaduwa, sea turtles, coral reefs, and spectacular sunsets provided the perfect ending to the organized tour.
Final Reflections
Looking back, what made this journey so special was not only Sri Lanka itself, but also how thoughtfully the entire tour was put together. Every transfer, activity, and hotel was carefully planned, allowing me to experience an incredible variety of landscapes, wildlife, culture, and local traditions without worrying about the logistics.
Sri Lanka truly is a gem of the Indian Ocean. Combined with the warmth of the Sri Lankan people and the excellent organization of the tour, it became one of the most enjoyable and stress-free journeys I have ever experienced.
